Having been the minister of the Church which sent David Livingstone to Africa, some relevant photographs are produced below.
St Simon’s Roman Catholic Church, Partick, Glasgow celebrates David Livingstone. As a teenager, their founder Priest, Daniel Gallagher assisted Livingstone in learning Latin so as to matriculate in medicine. The church has two paintings by RoyPetrie, one of Father Gallagher and one of Livingstone [lower image].
David Livingstone walked from Blantyre each Sunday to attend Church in Hamilton. He attended the Church which later became St James’ Congregational Church. This church closed in 1966 merging with Hamilton Congregational Church in South Park Road, of which his parents were among the ten founder members. In April 2000 the united Church became part of the United Reformed Church.

On 19th March 2013 the congregation celebrated the Bicentenary of Livingstone’s Birth, with Lawrence Moore as guest preacher. In June 2013 the Council for World Mission [successor to the London Missionary Society which sent Livingstone to Africa] held their Annual Council Meeting in Scotland holding their Inaugural Worship in the Hamilton Church.

Balfron High School, where I taught from 1994 until 2010, is partnered by Robert Laws Secondary School, Embangwenie, Malawi. In 2008 and 2011 staff and pupils from that school visited Scotland and during the 2011 visit when they visited the Livingstone Centre members of the Hamilton URC provided lunch.

The David Livingstone, Blantyre, preserves the building in which Livingstone was born. An extensive display of memorabilia us housed in the museum.
